Just found a bag full of my grandpas old maps and travel guides. It’s amazing to see all the places he travelled to as well as all of the places he wanted to go. He collected so many different road maps, brochures, national geographic articles, and guides on so many corners of the earth and knowing the places he travelled to, it’s easy to see that his desire to explore so much more than anyone can in their short lifetime is a true representation of his curious, loving, adventurous and giving spirit. It’s nice to share your family’s treasure.

fernweh [feyrn-vey]

—    (noun) This wonderful, untranslatable German word describes the feeling of homesickness for a far away land, a place you have never visited. Do not confuse this with the english word, wanderlust; Fernweh is much more profound, it is the feeling of an unsatisfied urge to escape and discover new places, almost a sort of sadness. You miss a place you have never experienced, as opposed to lusting over it or desiring it like wanderlust. You are seeking freedom and self-discovery, but not a particular home.  (via dietcrackcocaine)
